Annie Leibovitz Reflection :)

In the beginning the real kick off of Annie’s journey as a photographer started with her join The Rolling Stones on tour. People advised her not to go with them. She even went on to that that “ it was unbelievably stupid to pick that group of men in that situation to decide to sort of become part of something.” But she did and it started off a long life friendship with the stones and really broadened her capabilities. Helping her to make connections with better people and get more into the celebrity scene. A lot of people and Susan specifically wanted Annie to go Sarajevo and take pictures similar to how she used to. She felt that Annie got too caught up with the celebrities that she needed to find her way back to doing more intimate shoots rather than with a big crew. Annie admitted that when she went it truly put her work into perspective and she lost certain importance in more popular pieces. Annie loved her family and loved photographing them and she felt she had a responsibility to do so nicely. Susan was sick and needed a bone marrow transplant which failed Annie flew herself out and brought her home. For Annie this was her first experience where she had felt “I should just take some pictures.” Annie was famous for photographing famous people, most said that she had such a way of capturing a person that they weren’t yet familiar with. “She can see things that I can’t” “We’ve got the entertainment industry and we’ve got the Hollywood and the magazine culture. We’ve got the personal narrative, the family narrative, and the primary relationship with Susan.” Really putting a frame around their character, their attitudes, their insecurities, but also humanizing these people at the same time.
